The imposing stone spire of Emmanuel Church, Holcombe is visible for miles across the surrounding countryside.

The present church has stood on the lower slopes of Holcombe Hill since 1853, but there have been sacred places in and around Holcombe since the earliest times.

On entering by the west door the visitor looks straight down the central aisle to the chancel and the stained glass window depicting the Ascension of Christ.

Re-ordering

Re-ordering took place during 1995, when the flagged floor in the porch was re-laid, a glass screen and a door was constructed, pews were removed from the west end of the church creating more space. The choir stalls and organ were re-sited and a dais created across the east end in front of the chancel arch.

Floodlighting

In 1999 the exterior of the building was floodlit using money from the Millennium Floodlighting Fund and monies donated locally.

Emmanuel Church Centre

The Canon Lewis Hall

In 1995 a fund was launched to raise money for an extension to the Hall.

Work commenced in November 1996, when a spacious and attractive worship area was added, linked by a screen to the Hall. A separate entrance allows access to the worship area, parish office, vestry and meeting room.

The extension known as The Emmanuel Church Centre was dedicated on 12th January 1997 by the Bishop of Bolton.

Towards partition
was consecrated in October 1976 and named after a former Rector of Holcombe, Cecil W. Lewis M. A.
The Hall was used as a worship area and also extensively by the local community.
